Resumo
Schizophrenia is a disorder that is present in the lives of many individuals and family members, since this disorder directly interferes in the lives of all the people involved, whether the schizophrenic or their family member / caregiver. This article aims to discuss the impact of schizophrenia on the mental health of the schizophrenic family. The study was carried out in the form of a literature review, characterized by articles extracted from the Lilacs and Scielo databases. The articles observed showed a need to plan a way for family members to be welcomed, so that exhaustive burden decreases and family members continue to exercise their role as caregivers. The five reviewed articles point to subjective and objective burden, in addition to other consequences generated in the caregiver's life. They also suggest the need for new Public Policies aimed at this theme, with the aim of reducing the burden and generating a family support network.
