Resumo

In recent years, the elderly population in Brazil has been growing rapidly. It is estimated that in 2030, it will represent 13.44% of the total population. In the 2010 census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) the number of elderly people was 20,438,561, representing 11.8% of the population. This is the population most affected by fractures in the femur, due to problems related to osteoporosis, such as distal radius fractures, proximal humerus and clavicular fractures, more frequent in the elderly, causing a major public health problem. Due to this fact, the quality of life of the elderly is compromised within the psychosocial scope and activities of daily living. In this sense, the objective of this article is to discuss the physiotherapeutic intervention in the rehabilitation of elderly post-femur fractures through the Pilates method. It is a qualitative, descriptive research with literature review, based on the consultation in the databases Pubmed, LILACS and Scielo. The inclusion criteria were original and experimental articles, which report on the effects of pilates on the quality of life of elderly patients with osteoporosis. The exclusion criteria were articles that reported treatment with pilates resources or only drug treatment. As results found, after reading the works that compose this article, it is possible to evidence a gain in obtaining flexibility and consequently an improvement in functional capacity and quality of life in elderly people with osteoporosis, operated or not, even with the contraindications, it is possible carry out the application of the method, only requiring certain changes and care.
